Support Groups In Our Community

Note: We're in the process of compiling a comprehensive list of support groups either hosted at Gwinnett Medical Center or in the community. Instead of waiting for the final list, we thought we'd post the information we have to date. The support groups are listed in alphabetical order, with additional cancer care support organizations at the end of the list.

Alcoholics Anonymous
Meets: Several locations

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. The primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. Amputee Support Group
Meets: the second Wednesday of each month, 6 –7 p.m.
At: Gwinnett SportsRehab, 500 Medical Center Blvd., Suite 130, Lawrenceville, GA 30046

Aphasia Conversation Group
Meets:
The second and fourth Thursday each month, 1:30 – 3 p.m.

Breastfeeding Support Group
Meets: The second Monday each month, 11 a.m. - noon
At: Gwinnett Women’s Pavilion, Azalea Room, 1000 Medical Center Blvd., Lawrenceville, GA 30046
Join other breastfeeding moms to discuss the joys and challenges of breastfeeding and beyond. Babies are welcome! For more information, call our Breastfeeding Help Line at 678-312-4743.


Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and Ostomy
Meets: Second Tuesday of every other month during the school year, 7 p.m.
At: GMC Resource Center, 665 Duluth Highway, Lawrenceville, GA 30046
This is a support group for people with Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and for people that have ostomies (colostomy, ileostomy and urostomy). For more information, call 678-312-2607.


The Margaret Andrews Parkinson's Support Group at Gwinnett Medical Center-Duluth
Meets: The second Friday of each month, 1:30 – 3 p.m.
At: Glancy Campus, Kiwi Room, 3215 McClure Bridge Rd., Duluth, GA 30096

Narcotics Anonymous

Narcotics Anonymous is an international, community-based association of recovering drug addicts. Started 1947, the core of the Narcotics Anonymous recovery program is a series of personal activities know as the Twelve Steps adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous. For more information, visit na.org.


Perinatal Loss Support Group
Meets: The third Tuesday each month, 6:30 – 8 p.m.
At: Chapel at Gwinnett Medical Center-Lawrenceville (located in the lobby), 1000 Medical Center Blvd., Lawrenceville, GA 30046
This grief support group for those who have lost a baby offers an open environment in which bereaved parents can share their thoughts and feelings as well as recognize they are not alone. Receive the support, understanding and healing needed to move forward in a positive direction. For more information, call 678-312-4786. 


Smoking Cessation – Freshstart Program
The Freshstart Program is a smoking cessation program created by the American Cancer Society. The program consists of four classes taught by trained facilitators with the goal of helping participants to stop smoking by educating them in a supportive group environment.
We are happy to offer our smoking cessation program free of charge.

Stroke Support Group
Meets: The third Wednesday each month, 1:30 p.m.

Women’s Cancer Support Group
Meets: the second Tuesday each month, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
