3 Super-Easy Secrets to Staying Healthy

Looking for some quick fixer-uppers for your health? Try these three super-easy tips from David S. Ostreicher, DDS, author of Brush Your Teeth! And Other Simple Ways to Stay Young and Healthy:

1.    Practice good dental hygiene, which includes flossing your teeth at least once a day and brushing your teeth for at least two to three minutes twice a day. “This removes harmful bacteria that causes cavities, produces inflammation and suppresses your immune system,” Ostreicher says. Gum disease even can increase the risk of heart disease and low-birth-weight babies. February is National Children’s Dental Health Month – so help your kids build these good dental habits early.

2.    Wash your hands frequently. Use soap and warm, running water for at least 20 seconds. Rub your hands together to create lather and scrub all the way up your wrists. Rinse, and then dry thoroughly.

3.    Look on the bright side. “Yes, your attitude does matter,” Ostreicher says. Positive thinking can sometimes help prevent depression, insomnia and anxiety, he notes.
