4 Easy Ways To Shake The Salt Habit At Home

It seems we all need to watch our sodium intake. Too much sodium contributes to high blood pressure, among other things, and while we need some sodium, in our society we tend to have too much.

We all know that dining out, especially at fast food restaurants, can pack on the sodium. But what can you do at home to minimize sodium intake?

Here are four easy ways to shake the salt habit at home:

  1. Prepare fresh fruits and vegetables instead of canned, processed, or packaged foods.
  2. Prowl your pantry for herbs and spices. Rather than cooking with salt, season your food with herbs and spices.
  3. Splash, not dash. Add a splash of vinegar or lemon juice to sauces, soups and salads instead of dashing on the salt.
  4. Replace the salt shaker on your table with a delicious no-salt herb blend, like Mrs. Dash.
